Privacy policy

JanWatchdog website and the JanWatchdog and janStartupEvaluator apps · effective 10 October 2026

What you can do without an account

Reading the public pages (budgets, schemes, audits, MPs and MLAs, jobs, exam and licence guides) needs no account. We do not run advertising or third-party tracking on the site.

What we collect when you create an account

Your name, username and email address, and your password stored only as a salted hash that cannot be read back.

Your mobile number when you pay, because the payment gateway needs it for UPI and payment alerts.

The startup ideas you submit to the Startup Evaluator, the details you add to them, and the results, so you can open them again.

Your plan and payments: amount, date, plan and the payment reference. Card, UPI and bank details are entered on PayU's page and never reach us.

Sign-in records: the time, and the network address used to stop password guessing.

Cookies

jw_session keeps you signed in; jw_device remembers a browser you trusted for sign-in codes. googtrans is set only when you choose a language other than English. None of these is used for advertising.

Who processes data for us

PayU (payment processing), our email provider (sign-in codes and receipts), a text-analysis service that writes the written part of an evaluation from the idea text you submit, Google Fonts (font files) and Google's website translator (only when you choose a language). Our server is hosted with Oracle Cloud in the United States.

Certificates

When an evaluation qualifies, anyone with its certificate ID can check the title, the holder's name, the score and the date on the Verify page. The idea itself is never shown there.

How long we keep it

Account data and evaluations are kept until you delete the account. Payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires (generally up to 8 years), without your name, email or phone once the account is deleted.

Your choices and rights

You can see and correct your details, download your evaluation reports, and delete your account at any time: how to delete your account. Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can also ask what we hold about you and complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Children

Accounts are for people aged 18 or over.
