Kendriya Vidyalaya admission (PM SHRI schools): eligibility, documents and how to apply for it
Who can apply for Kendriya Vidyalaya admission (PM SHRI schools)
- Class 1: the child must be at least 6 and under 8 years old on 31 March of the admission year. Balvatika classes take children from 3 years.
- Priority goes first to children of transferable Central government employees (including ex-servicemen), then to other Central government, PSU and State government employees, then to everyone else.
- Seats are reserved under the Right to Education Act (25% in Class 1) and for SC, ST and OBC (non-creamy layer) children and children with disabilities, as set out in the KVS admission guidelines.
- PM SHRI schools are existing Central, State and local body schools being upgraded. Admission to a PM SHRI school follows that school's normal process.

- Child's birth certificate
- Photo
- Proof of residence
- Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/disability), if claimed
- Service certificate of the parent, if claiming priority
How to apply for Kendriya Vidyalaya admission (PM SHRI schools), step by step
- Watch for the admission notice on kvsangathan.nic.in. Online registration for Balvatika and Class 1 usually opens in March.
- Register on the KVS admission portal and fill in the child's details, category and priority claim.
- Choose the Vidyalayas you want (as many as the portal allows), submit, and note the registration number.
- Seats are filled by computerised lottery within each priority category. Check the provisional lists on the portal and the school notice board.
- If your child is selected, report to the school with original documents by the date given.
- For Class 2 and above, apply directly at the school when it announces vacancies.
