Who can apply for MGNREGA (rural employment)
- Any adult member of a rural household who is willing to do unskilled manual work. The household gets up to 100 days of work a year.
- At least one-third of the work is meant for women.
How to apply for MGNREGA (rural employment), step by step
- Apply for a job card at your Gram Panchayat, in writing or orally, with the names, ages and photos of the adult members. It must be issued free within 15 days.
- Apply for work at the Gram Panchayat (Form 6 or a plain application) and get a dated receipt.
- Work must be given within 15 days and within 5 km of your home (or with extra wages). If it is not, you are entitled to an unemployment allowance.
- Wages are paid into your bank or post office account within 15 days of the muster roll closing. Late wages earn compensation.
- Check your job card, attendance and payments on nrega.nic.in. Raise problems at the Gram Sabha social audit or with the Programme Officer at the block.
