Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana: eligibility, documents and how to apply for it
Who can apply for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana
- Pregnant women and nursing mothers, for the first child, and for the second child if it is a girl.
- Belonging to any of these groups: SC or ST; women with 40% or more disability; BPL ration card holders; Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY beneficiaries; e-Shram card holders; PM-KISAN farmer families; MGNREGA job card holders; families with income below Rs 8 lakh a year; Anganwadi workers and helpers and ASHAs; NFSA ration card holders.
- Women in regular government or PSU employment, or getting similar maternity benefits under any law, are not eligible.
Documents required for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana
- Aadhaar (or other ID while Aadhaar is pending)
- Mother and Child Protection (MCP) card
- Bank or post office account linked to Aadhaar
- Proof of belonging to one of the groups above
- Child's birth certificate (for the later instalment)
How to apply for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, step by step
- Register the pregnancy at your Anganwadi centre or health facility, and have at least one antenatal check-up within six months.
- Apply through the Anganwadi worker or ASHA, or online on the PMMVY portal, with the documents listed above.
- First child: Rs 5,000 in two instalments, after pregnancy registration and the antenatal check-up, and after the birth is registered and the child gets the first round of vaccines.
- Second child, if a girl: Rs 6,000 in one instalment after the birth, once the birth is registered and the due vaccines are given.
- You can still register up to 270 days after the child's birth.
