Who can use it

  • There is no individual application. The Centre pays State and UT agencies part of the cost of moving and handling NFSA foodgrains within the State and of the margin paid to fair price shop dealers. In May 2026 the Cabinet joined it with SMART-PDS under the umbrella scheme SARTHAK-PDS.
  • Households with an NFSA ration card get their grain at the fair price shop: 35 kg a month for an Antyodaya Anna Yojana household and 5 kg per person a month for a priority household.

How to use Ration under the National Food Security Act: grain movement and ration shop dealers' margin, step by step

  1. If your household has no ration card, apply to the State food and civil supplies department, on its ration card portal or at its office.
  2. Draw your grain at the fair price shop after Aadhaar authentication on the shop's ePoS machine, and ask for the receipt.
  3. If the shop gives less grain, charges more or turns you away, complain to the State food department's helpline or portal, or to the District Grievance Redressal Officer named under the Act.
