Who can use it

  • There is no individual application. The scheme pays for the technology of the Public Distribution System: digitised ration card lists, Aadhaar seeding of ration cards and ePoS machines at fair price shops. In May 2026 the Cabinet joined it with the grain movement and dealers' margin assistance under the umbrella scheme SARTHAK-PDS.
  • Every household with an NFSA ration card uses it when it draws its ration.

How to use SMART-PDS (technology in the Public Distribution System), step by step

  1. Draw your ration at the fair price shop after Aadhaar authentication on the ePoS machine, and ask for the receipt.
  2. Under One Nation One Ration Card you can draw your ration at a fair price shop in another district or State too.
  3. Check your ration card and the grain drawn against it on the State food department's portal.
  4. If authentication fails or the shop turns you away, complain to the State food department's helpline or portal, or to the District Grievance Redressal Officer.
